Advent Devotionals

Once again Christmas is nearly upon us; something that can be viewed in many different ways. When I was a child, the anticipation of Christmas Day was almost overwhelming. I loved the advent calendars, the decorations in the shops, the carol concerts and services, and all the other pre-Christmas events. And, of course, the most exciting thing of all was the prospect of receiving presents on the big day. As a young mum Christmas was overwhelming in a different way. As the person responsible for sending cards, buying and wrapping presents, planning and cooking the festive food and all the extra trimmings, Christmas meant budgeting and lists,  tiredness and coping with over-excited children. To be honest, the object of my anticipation was probably not Christmas itself so much as the days afterwards, when I might finally get a chance to sit down and put my feet up. Now, as a grandmother who has handed over some of the reins of responsibility to the next generation, I anticipate the joys of being with all the family and watching our grandchildren having fun.

But in all these seasons of life I have tried to take time during Advent to reflect on the birth of Christ and the expectation of His second coming to the earth. This series of devotionals is offered as a means to help you do the same.
