You Don’t Have to Earn What Jesus Has Already Given
We can easily fall into the trap of thinking that being a “good Christian” means trying hard enough, doing enough and getting enough things right for God to be pleased with us.
But the gospel tells us something wonderfully different.
God’s acceptance isn’t something we can earn through perfect behaviour. No amount of religious activity, good works or outward conformity can make us righteous before Him. Our righteousness comes through Jesus.
Christ lived the perfectly obedient life that we could never live and gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sin. Because of Him, those who put their trust in Christ can stand before God not because they have achieved perfection, but because Christ’s righteousness has been credited to them.
That doesn’t make obedience unimportant. It changes why we obey.
We don’t obey in order to make God love us. We obey because He already loves us. We don’t live righteously to earn our place in His family. We live righteously because, through Christ, we already belong.
Grace doesn’t lower God’s standard. Grace gives us the Saviour we need to meet it.

Reflection Question:
Am I trying to earn God’s approval through what I do, or am I living from the security of knowing I am already accepted through Christ?
Prayer:
Father, thank You that I don’t have to earn Your acceptance. Thank You that through Jesus, You see me as righteous and acceptable in Your sight. Help me to stop striving for what You have already given me through Christ. Let Your grace transform the way I live, so that my obedience flows from love rather than fear. Amen.
